To me, the most challenging form of art is realism. Creating form and texture is only part of the challenge. When your subject is a loving family member, the more important aspect is capturing personality. Each of our pets possess unique characteristics. Capturing these characteristics is the true definition of realism. I have found the richness and versatility of pastels to be the perfect medium for capturing the essence of our furry friends in a realistic style. Each painting is created by slowly building layers of pastel onto velour paper until the fur seems touchable, eyes reflect life and personality shines through. When I can stand back and smile at the painting, I know I'm finished. Delivering a commissioned painting to a pet owner is a wonderfully satisfying experience. With reactions ranging from a speechless smile, to squeals of happiness, to tears of joy – I am thankful and humbled to have been allowed to touch their lives with my artistic expression. |
