Step 3 - The Underpainting After transferring the drawing to the acid free velour board, I begin the underpainting with a limited palette of hard pastels. This layer of pastel is the foundation of the painting establishing form and tone. I also add detail to the eyes and nose at this early stage to begin developing personality. |
